Change One This Thing about your day to Experience Success

In coaching managers, I hear a common theme of busyness, lack of productivity, and the sentiment that they are not having the impact that they desire. It is common to get so busy with the day to day activities at work and in life that they lose focus and lose sight of the vision. It seems that often, individuals feel stuck or unproductive in their jobs or even at home.

When managers are constantly putting our fires, stuck in an unending cycle of ruts, and missing opportunities, it is time to take a step back and assess the current situation. It is important to revisit the mission and vision statement of your organization. If you don’t have one, you might need to take the time to create one. A mission statement is an organization’s reason for existence. Vision statements are a lofty, long term goal that organizations are constantly trying to achieve.  Vision statements should be both clear and inspiring.

Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV) says, “And the LORD answered me: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”[i]

God gives us a vision and a plan. He wants us to write it down and work toward it. Ask God to give you a vision and follow it. He has a plan and will guide us.  Consider these questions:

  • What is God calling you to do?
  • Who do you want to help in life?
  • What does your preferred workday look like?
  • What are you passionate about and really want to do in your life?
  • In your finances, what do you need to be able to do to help others?
  • As an entrepreneur, what consumer need can you meet?
  • In the workplace, what role can you fulfill in an organization to help it strive to achieve its mission?
  • In your organizations, who can you develop as leaders that can communicate and inspire through the organizational vision?
  • Tell me about a day that you were successful in your efforts. What did it look like and how can you create more of those?
  • Tell me about a time that you were at your best.
  • What legacy do you want to leave behind?
