Abundance or Poverty; Your actions make a difference.

  • Have you ever felt that everything related to your job and life were out of control?
  • Have you ever completely failed at something you tried to do because you were in a hurry or did not think it through?
  • Have you ever had a project that you procrastinated because you did not know how to get started or you knew it would take a lot of time and energy?

These types of things have happened to all of us. We often fail to engage in planning.  In starting anything, we need a vision and plan.

Proverbs 21:5 ESV says, “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” [i]

Or put another way, the Good New Bible translation of Proverbs 21:5 says, “Plan carefully and you will have plenty; if you act too quickly, you will never have enough.” [ii]

The difference between poverty and abundance is determined by our actions. Take a moment to consider the following questions:

  • What are the benefits of planning? What does your ideal day, week, year look like?
  • What is stopping you? What specifically is overwhelming you?
  • What one thing could you do today to begin making a difference in your life?

In our work and in considering our future,

  • we need to plan,
  • think ahead,
  • set some long-term goals,
  • create action plans,
  • work hard, and
  • avoid taking short cuts.

We need to:

  • Be diligent and disciplined.
  • Figure out what you need to do every single month, week, and day to get things done.
  • Develop action steps and metrics to track our progress.

Accountability and consistency are the keys. Often those that try to get rich quick or who are haphazard in their work will fail due to lack of planning and hard work. Take action today so that you can enjoy your efforts and avoid never feeling like you have enough time, enough energy, enough money, enough resources, enough of anything.
